Invisible Fish Primarily showcasing works from Salish artists early in their careers, this exhibition borrows its title from a Joy Harjo poem that speaks to the spirit of this group show—familial and community connections centered around waterways and how our environment holds collective memory. Reflecting on where the Gallery is situated in Bear Creek Park on Coast Salish territory, Invisible Fish encourages you to think of your own relationship to the creeks, rivers, and sea that flow through and around this land. There will be a two and a half-metre touchable block print and a friendly reading nook for all ages.

Through sharing meanings behind different shapes and symbols in Coast Salish art, Ovila Mailhot speaks to his experiences growing up and how they have influenced him as an artist. You can also see Mailhot’s graphic design work in the exhibition poster he created for Invisible Fish.
