Youth Urban Forest Wetland Monitoring May 30, 4:30-6:30pm Become part of Surrey’s growing community science efforts and help collect data on indicator species and water quality at Green Timbers Urban Forest. Monitor the wetlands by identifying indicator species on iNaturalist and testing water quality with municipal water-testing kits. Age 13-18. Green Timbers Urban Forest (14600 Block of 100 Ave). Meet at the lake. Hosted by Surrey Parks. Pre-register at surrey.ca/ extravaganza. Pollinator Palooza May 31, 1-3pm Celebrate birds, bees, and butterflies and how they help us to survive with local experts and family fun activities! Join a grassland safari or show off your favourite costume in our pollinator parade. Make your own pollinator-planter to create a buzz...ing outdoor space they’ll love (while quantities last). Sunnyside Acres Open House May 31, 1-4pm Get a bird’s-eye view of the urban forest in a bucket truck. Meet grassroots volunteers who protect Surrey’s urban forest along with local naturalists, conservation and wildlife groups. Explore with a forest fairy, enjoy nature crafts, cookies, face painting, and more. Drop-in. All ages. Sunnyside Acres Urban Forest Park (Wally Ross Trail parking lot, north side of 24 Ave between 144 St and 148 St) Hosted by Sunnyside Acres Heritage Society and Surrey’s Natural Areas Partnership (SNAP). Nature Movie: How to Change the World May 31, 2-4pm Bring your blanket and a snack. Parents must stay with children who need supervision. Not rated. Running time: 1 hr 40 min. Drop-in. All ages.
