ECOSYSTEMS

• Corporate Records securely shredded and recycled 69.07 metric tonnes of paper, with the following environmental benefits: 1,827 trees preserved, 416 trash bags avoided from the landfill, 2,893 bathtubs of water preserved, enough electricity to power 915 residential refrigerators saved and the equivalent of 81 gas powered cars removed from the road this year; and • Acquired approximately two acres of ecologically significant land at 106 Avenue in Guilford for a nominal value for conservation and enjoyment by the community.

BUILT ENVIRONMENT & NEIGHBOURHOODS

• Conversion of Bridgeview Community Center and a portion of Surrey Sports and Leisure Complex into childcare facilities, as well as the construction of an addition to Don Christian Recreation Center to accommodate a new childcare facility. These improvements and additions will create a total of 96 licensed childcare spaces for the community; •

Acquired five acres of parkland in growing neighbourhoods for future greenways, playgrounds and sport courts; and • Successfully decommissioned and demolished the former North Surrey Recreation Centre as part of City renewal and redevelopment efforts.
