Aquatic Leadership courses available at select dates, times and locations only; go to surrey.ca/lifeguard to see what is offered this season.

Register for a Swim Class Avoid the line, register online! We offer free Wi-Fi at all recreation facilities. Select Swim Lessons from the main activities page Narrow your search by age, level, location, days of the week or date range. Available courses will show number of spots available. Click REGISTER. Course is full if you see WAIT-LIST. Click to be added to the waitlist. If a spot becomes available, you will be notified by phone or email.

Sign up for the individualized instruction offered through private swim lessons. Lessons are suited for swimmers who need more practice with specific swimming skills. Variable times are available, check online for details.

Shower with soap to remove body oils, lotions, dirt, sweat, bacteria and more.

Monday to Thursday, Saturday and Sunday Surrey Sport and Leisure Complex Monday to Friday, Sunday

Wear bathing attire that is clean and hasn’t been worn outside.

Shower between use of the hot tub, sauna and steam room and before entering the pool(s).

Encourage your children to complete all their swim levels so that they may continue on to our Aquatic Leadership programs.This sets them up for a possible career as an aquatic professional either part–time while going through secondary school or as a rewarding long–term career.

COMPLETE ALL YOUR LEVELS Swimmer 7 - Rookie Patrol Prerequisite: Swimmer 6. Children develop their front and back crawl, breaststroke, and complete a timed 100m swim and 350m workout. Swimmers will learn how to swim with clothes, ready position, feet-first/ head-first surface dives, how to do a primary assessment and call EMS. Swimmer 7-9 - Canadian Swim Patrol Prerequisite: Swimmer 6; children must be 8 years old. Swimmers will be trained in water proficiency with stroke correction and distance swims ranging from 350-600 meters, first aid and lifesaving skills. Swimmer 8 - Ranger Patrol Prerequisite: Swimmer 7. Children will focus on stride entries and underwater, forward and backward somersaults. Swimmers will learn lifesaving sport skills with a lifesaving stroke medley, timed object support and a non contact rescue with a buoyant aid. Children will work on their eggbeater kick and increase fitness levels to meet a 200m timed swim. First aid focuses on unconscious victims and obstructed airway procedures. Children will be challenged with a 300m timed swim, 600m workout and a 25m object carry, and strokes continue to be refined. Lifesaving skills include use of rescue aids, defense methods, victim removals and supporting a victim in shallow water. First aid focuses on treatment of bone or joint injuries and respiratory emergencies. Once complete, swimmers register into Bronze Star.
