Engineering Services – Engineering Department The Engineering Department is responsible for providing timely and effective services relating to water, sewer, drainage, garbage collection, transportation systems, and corporate real estate. Drainage Services – Drainage Department The Drainage Utility operates the network of storm sewers and pump stations for storm water management. Its primary responsibility is to manage the City’s storm water runoff in partnership with the Operations Division and Metro Vancouver. Solid Waste Management Services The Solid Waste Utility provides weekly residential curbside organic waste collection with alternating bi-weekly garbage and recycling, and curbside collection services via a fully-automated cart-based collection system. Roads and Traffic Safety Services The Roads & Traffic Safety Utility provides effective managed transportation systems that serves the mobility needs of individuals and businesses and is safe, secure and supports the economic vitality of the City, and protects and enhances the environment. Planning and Development Services – Planning and Development Department The Planning and Development Department is responsible for preparing land use plans, by-laws and policies for sustainable development of the City and for reviewing and approving new land and building development. Parking The Parking Authority Utility is a self-funded program that involves planning, managing and enforcing the City’s on and off street parking assets, employing leading edge technologies, such as license plate recognition and pay stations that provide a user friendly interface, improved theft security and efficient enforcement. Surrey City Energy Surrey City Energy is the municipal energy utility of the Engineering Department. This utility provides the planning and development of community energy systems that will provide thermal energy to new and existing developments throughout the City Centre area. Surrey Public Library Services The Surrey Public Library provides access to local and global information through its nine Library branches located throughout the City.
