2017 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
INCLUSION
Completed renovations and opened the Guildford Temporary Homeless Shelter.
Secured a two year lease renewal (to May 31, 2020) for the continued operation of the Whalley “Boulevard Shelter” in support of homelessness in the City Centre; and
BUILT ENVIRONMENT & NEIGHBOURHOODS
Received Council approval for the use of Sewer Development Cost Charge Front-ending agreement in Abbey Ridge to enable cost recovery by Canadian Horizons (Abbey Ridge) Development Corporation for works required for their development and other benefitting lands.
Committed $66.3 million in Parkland Acquisition Program expenditures. Parkland acquisitions, excluding riparian dedications and parkland transferred to the City as a requirement of subdivision, resulted in 45.2 acres being added to the City’s park inventory during 2017 and more than 72 acres of parkland added during the last two years; Completed the sale of the Port Kells Heritage Fire Hall to the Surrey Firefighters Historical Society; Secured a site in Newton for a regional residential drop-off eco-centre facility; Executed two Site Specific Municipal Access agreements with Rogers Communications Canada Inc. to enhance telecommunication service; and Received the “Arnold Silzer Community Policing Initiative Award” in partnership with Surrey Outreach Team. This award, shared with other departments in the City recognized outstanding community policing and problem solving initiatives which, through the PUBLIC SAFETY
Continued with mandatory safety certification training for all Engineering Operations employees; Implemented a Workplace Safety Awareness Campaign;
cooperative effort, are positively contributing to the safety and well- being of the community;
the future lives here.
