ECONOMIC PROSPERITY & LIVELIHOODS
To maintain operations based on fleet capacity, vehicles with tenure at/or beyond useful life will be replaced with several vehicles providing economic, social and environmental benefits; and
Implement and promote the Online Request for Information application to identify high volume users to further streamline the process.
ECOSYSTEMS
Continue to incorporate the use of the anti-idling power units technology in upcoming 2018 apparatus purchases to capture opportunities to further minimize fuel use caused in support of anti-idling and the City’s aim to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
EDUCATION & CULTURE
Commencement of an internal recruit training program in partnership with the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV). Internal delivery will better prepare firefighters to work in the City of Surrey while removing barriers and increasing inclusivity. Partnering with UFV is a key component of the Fire department’s career long learning program.
HEALTH & WELLNESS
Firefighters Ice Rescue Simulation
Wellness manual initiatives identified for implementation in 2018 include development of a model for Firefighter Population Health Surveillance Program. This program will include profile development and tracking of health markers for firefighters.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Review of dispatch service infrastructure capacity in preparation of 2019 dispatch clients contract renewals; and
Assessment of City fire bylaws and related processes for alignment with anticipated Fire Service Act 2018 changes.
