MESSAGE FROM Mayor Doug McCallum This Recreation Guide is your invitation to participate, play, and explore. Whether you are looking to get fit, play a sport, or learn a new dance step, Recreation Surrey has thousands of programs for all ages and all levels of ability. opportunity to enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle, regardless of income or ability. That’s why City Council implemented a 75% discount on recreation centre passes and drop-in admissions for seniors 70 years and older. Since the new discount was put in place at the start of 2019, there has been 50,000 additional visits by seniors to our recreation facilities. Surrey is renowned for our recreation offerings and we are continually looking for opportunities to expand our parkland and upgrade our facilities. In 2019, more than 165 acres of new parks and green spaces have been added in Surrey through parkland acquisition. When it comes to our facilities, the rinks at the North Surrey Sport and Ice Complex are open for public skating and a range of ice sports. In the new year, the Complex will be fully open and patrons will be able to make use of the fitness centre, indoor cycling space and yoga studio. The largest inclusive playground in Surrey opened in October at Unwin Park in Newton. At 12,000 square feet, the Jumpstart Playground provides an imaginative and accessible play space for children of all abilities to play together. By the end of the year a new rugby fieldhouse and covered soccer facility will be open at South Surrey Athletic Park. As we continue to build strong, healthy communities where people of all ages can be active participants and engaged for life, I want to invite you to make full use of our recreation facilities and the quality programs led by our highly trained staff. A healthy and active lifestyle awaits you right here in Surrey. The City of Surrey takes great pride in ensuring our residents have the
