Adapted Programs

SPIRIT Volunteer SPIRIT Volunteers who are at least 15 years of age can participate in the following types of volunteer opportunities.

Group and Event Support support a group of individuals alongside City of Surrey adapted program instructors in adapted sports, adapted social recreation programs, and events. Programs or events include Sledge Hockey, Fun for Kids, Adapted Sports Tournaments. One to One Support after participating in a 1.5 hour mandatory One to One Support training session, volunteers can support an individual participant or volunteer in a program and provide them with the support they need to successfully participate in activities. Programs include Art Explorers, Kids Who Cook, Day Camp Support, Volunteer Support and more!

Supported Volunteer Application Are you interested in volunteering and require support in one or more of the following areas? Individuals requiring support can apply to the SPIRIT Volunteer Program and be matched with another volunteer to support them. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. When applying, you will provide the information necessary for how to best support you to be successful as a volunteer. Areas where volunteers can sign-up to volunteer are City-Wide Special Events, Friends of the Forest, Heritage Services, Partners in Parks, Recreation Programs, and more.

Adapted Sports Sledge Hockey Learn how to move your sled, shoot the puck, and play fun games with an enthusiastic instructor. Great program for children, youth, and adults wanting to learn Canada’s national pastime! All abilities welcome. One to One Support For children with disabilitie s 6-13yrs Camps pages 65 - 67 The City of Surrey offers one-to-one staff support for children with disabilities to participate in Surrey Parks, Recreation & Culture spring day camps. Once registered for a City of Surrey Day Camp, children are matched with a support staff who will accompany them to their camp of choice. There is no additional fee for this service.
