SPIRIT Volunteer Opportunities Interested in volunteering in our adapted programs?The SPIRIT Volunteer Program offers meaningful opportunities to support individuals with disabilities in recreation settings.
Increase involvement and access for individuals with disabilities in our community in recreation settings Encourage individuals with disabilities to volunteer by matching them with a SPIRIT volunteer for support Offer meaningful and rewarding volunteer experience Provide opportunities to cultivate personal development and education Advocate and foster opportunities for inclusion for all members of our diverse community
ADAPTED SOCIAL RECREATION Volunteer to support children with disabilities in participating activities such as crafts, painting, games in the gymnasium and much more. Learn new skills in communicating visually and verbally to provide the best experience for participants.
ADAPTED SPORTS Supports adapted sport programs including boccia and wheelchair basketball. Volunteers will support the program staff and interact with participants with diverse needs while having a great time.

City-Wide Special Events
English Conversation Program Are you passionate about helping others and interested in promoting cultural diversity and inclusion in the community?The English Conversation Program (ECP) offers a positive and welcoming environment for newcomers, and people from diverse backgrounds, to practice English and meet others in the community. We are looking for individuals with strong communication and leadership skills to plan, lead, and facilitate an 8-week free English Conversation Program offered in select libraries. For more information, please email diversity@surrey.ca. Heritage Services Step back in time and volunteer at Historic Stewart Farm as a House Ambassador. As a person with good communication skills, you will guide brief tours of the farmhouse and share local history with visitors. Don’t know all the history? No problem! All training is provided, and staff are always available to field more detailed questions. We offer our volunteers flexible scheduling and online booking to work with your availability. Emergency Support Services (ESS) Volunteer – Emergency Response Be there when it matters most. Emergency Support Services (ESS) volunteers help support individuals and families displaced by disasters such as fires, floods, and other emergencies. ESS provides short-term, immediate assistance, including help with shelter, food, and clothing. In Surrey, ESS Level 2 supports larger scale emergencies. Trained volunteers work alongside City staff at temporary Reception Centres, usually located in City recreation facilities, where evacuees can safely register and receive support. Be part of the excitement and help bring Surrey’s most vibrant community celebrations to life. The City-Wide Special Events volunteer program offers opportunities to support a variety of welcoming and inclusive events throughout the year, including the Vaisakhi Parade, Party for the Planet, Canada Day, Fusion Festival, and the Tree Lighting Festival. Volunteers gain valuable experience, build connections, and contribute to memorable community experiences. Eligibility: Must be 14 years of age or older Applications open: October 2026 Day Camps Make a positive impact in your community while gaining hands on experience working with children. As a Day Camp Assistant, you will support City staff and help create fun, safe, and engaging camp experiences across a variety of programs, including sports, arts, dance, and themed camps. Volunteers develop leadership skills, build confidence, and serve as positive role models for children. Eligibility: Must be 14 years of age or older Applications open: October 2026
VOLUNTEER AT SURREY ART GALLERY!
Want to be part of our creative community? Have fun, learn about contemporary art, and make friends in a supportive environment. Here are some ways you can get involved: DOCENTS (TOUR GUIDES) Join a dynamic community of volunteers dedicated to enriching art education for children! Gallery Docents lead engaging tours of contemporary art for school groups from September to June. Participants take part in ongoing training with art educators, curators, and artists. GALLERY EVENT VOLUNTEERS Learn with artists and connect Gallery visitors with contemporary art and ideas. Support vibrant events like exhibition openings, artist talks, and family art parties. Share your passion for art with eager young minds! Assist artist educators in classes and camps for those aged five to twelve. Develop leadership skills, organize studios, and work with children. YOUTH DOCENTS Engage with contemporary art, hone your presentation skills, help develop education programs, and learn to lead. Enhance exhibitions through activities that are both fun and educational. CHILDREN’S ART PROGRAM ASSISTANTS (CAPA)
