Appendix 2 – DP Guidelines
DP1.1 COMMON GUIDELINES
Site Lighting Within a development, the following elements shall be considered in the Site Design:
56. ALL TYPES: Incorporate neighbourhood character elements into on-site lighting design.
57. ALL TYPES: Provide a hierarchy of different lighting types with a coordinated appearance (e.g. lower- scale pedestrian pathways, parking areas, drive aisles, building and site entrances, and larger-scale parking lot lighting).
58. ALL TYPES: Coordinate the location of lighting with other landscape elements (e.g. trees). ALL TYPES: Ensure overall site lighting en- hances public safety and accommodates for safe ease of pedestrian movements to and from the development site. ALL TYPES: Incorporate energy efficiency into the overall lighting plan. ALL TYPES: Design and install lights that are vandal proof. Take maintenance accommodations into consideration when designing development site lighting plans. ALL TYPES: Provide exterior street lighting that follows the International Dark Sky Model (as amended) in order to limit light pollution and to reduce light overspill into any adjacent residential areas. INDUSTRIAL and BUSINESS: Locate lighting to assist visual surveillance including site security (e.g. monitored cameras).
