Draft - Official Community Plan - Surrey 2050
Part D – Policies
D3 Economy
Surrey can continue building a strong, diverse economy by protecting existing jobs, creating new ones and leveraging strengths such as its rapid growth, skilled workforce, major post secondary institutions and established companies. This is especially important for key sectors like advanced manufacturing, clean technology, agrifood, digital technology and logistics. A thriving future economy also depends on optimizing Surrey’s commercial, industrial, employment and agricultural lands; growing Surrey City Centre as a major regional hub; and expanding economic opportunities across all Town Centres . Achieving this requires strategic use of Surrey’s land. Supporting the creation of new commercial space across Surrey and prioritizing projects that will boost job creation and higher value business activity will be key. Major initiatives – such as new sports and convention facilities, cultural centres, SFU’s School of Medicine, UBC’s healthcare training facility and a new Entertainment District – will help raise Surrey’s profile, attract talent, support tourism and draw investment. With a diverse and balanced economy, Surrey can grow and remain resilient in a rapidly changing world. Priorities in this chapter align with the Surrey Economic Development Strategy, City Centre Plan and a forthcoming employment lands strategy.
Goal: Surrey’s economy is robust, resilient and sustainable, allowing the City and residents to thrive.
