OBJECTIVE

4.6 Advocate for and help guide the provision of non-municipal community facilities and services.

POLICY ACTIONS

4.6.1

Work with Surrey Schools and the provincial government to locate new public schools in emerging and rapidly growing neighborhoods. Work with independent school providers to locate new independent schools in emerging and rapidly growing neighborhoods. Support different school models in urban areas and within developments near rapid transit . Collaborate with Surrey Schools on the sharing and joint use of school and City facilities. Support the location of new and the expansion of existing post-secondary institutions close to transit. Plan for health services and medically supportive uses around existing facilities (Surrey Memorial Hospital and Peace Arch Hospital) and future facilities (Cloverdale Hospital).

4.6.7

Work with the Fraser Health Authority, health providers, non-profits and the provincial government to expand existing facilities and to plan for and strategically locate new facilities including new mental health, substance use treatment, complex care and other specialized health needs facilities. Support the development or expansion of childcare centres by ensuring regulations, zoning and policies permit on-site childcare centres:

Explore opportunities to support the development of appropriate spaces for Indigenous residents and community groups to gather, including co-location with civic facilities or partnering with private or public developments.
