I am a member of the Surrey First Education team and for 10 years have served as a Trustee. In my work life, I worked for the City of Surrey for 27 years and spent 15 years as president of CUPE 402. In my public life, I have spent time serving on many committees such as the Aboriginal Council, Homelessness and Housing Society, Diversity Committee and many Health and Safety Committees. In my political life,

I have lobbied countlessly for funding, access to fair education for all students regardless of social or economic standing and LGBTQ rights. In my personal life, I have struggled with poverty growing up and hopefully have helped students recognize the importance of an education and how teachers gave me a purpose in life when I really needed encouragement. I would be honoured to serve another 4 years and continue my advocacy for all students of Surrey.

I’m running for School Trustee with Proudly Surrey. I am a surveyor who lives in Fleetwood with my wife of 25 years, and 3 children. I’ve lived in Surrey most of my life, going to elementary school in Surrey and high school in North

Delta. I’ve been on the Surrey District Parents Advisory Council for over a year, observing the schools and the Board of Education. I’ve seen frustration with the school system on many levels. Our children don’t have enough support from Education Assistants and specialist teachers, and children are waiting far too long for assessments to get them that help. Our playing fields are full of portables because school construction is so far behind the population growth, and the old school buildings have asbestos in the walls and lead in the pipes. We created Proudly Surrey “for the many, not the few”, because many of our children are under-served by the current system.
