Get Involved! Neighbourhood Toolkit

Check out our new Neighbourhood Toolkit at www.surrey.ca/neighbourhoodteam for community building ideas! Here are some of the ways that the City of Surrey empowers Surrey residents to build community: NEIGHBOURHOOD ENHANCEMENT GRANT Interested in improving your neighbourhood? Apply for the City’s Neighbourhood Enhancement Grant for financial support of your project! All Surrey residents, community groups, businesses and associations can apply. NEIGHBOURHOOD EVENT EQUIPMENT Are you planning a local community event like a block party, festival, outdoor music performance, neighbourhood clean-up or art jam? We can provide some equipment to help make it a success. You can borrow a tent, tables, chairs, portable sound system and block party traffic barriers. The Neighbourhood Toolkit is a project of the City of Surrey’s Neighbourhood Team. Any questions, contact us at neighbourhoodteam@surrey.ca or learn more at www.surrey.ca/neighbourhoodteam. Neighbour Day Share a wonderful day with your neighbours and win! Neighbour Day is a celebration of community, with the purpose of building better relationships with the people who live around us, because ultimately a connected community is a happy community. Plan an activity in your neighbourhood this summer between August 1 and September 17th. It might be a tea on your front lawn, a block party, sports day, tree planting or street cleanup – as long as it’s with your neighbours, it counts. Share a photo of your event on the City’s Facebook account with #SurreyNeighbourDay and you’ll be automatically entered to win a weekly prize, and maybe even the Grand Prize for your entire neighbourhood to enjoy. Visit us online at www.surrey.ca/neighbourhoodteam for more details and contest rules. Bulbs for Beauty October is Bulbs for Beauty month! Every fall, school classes, community groups and individual residents plant thousands of bulbs throughout different parks in Surrey. Volunteers gain gardening experience, while contributing to enhancing the visual appeal of our neighbourhoods and fostering a sense of ownership amongst community residents. Visit www.surrey.ca/events , call 604-501-5050, or email partnersinparks@surrey.ca for planting details. Lend-a-Hand Calling all elementary and secondary teachers! Teach your students about social responsibility and the value of volunteering by adopting a local park during the school year. Participating classes will commit to weekly park clean-up sessions. This free parks program includes an interactive 30-minute orientation and all litter pick-up supplies. To register your class, please call 604-501-5050, or email partnersinparks@surrey.ca.
