CANADIAN SWIM PATROL - ROOKIE, RANGER AND STAR PATROL This three level pre-Bronze award progression delivers “work hard/play hard” training for skilled swimmers. Canadian Swim Patrol is designed to take young swimmers beyond the learn-to-swim program and to provide them with basic lifesaving skills. BRONZE STAR Candidates refine their stroke mechanics, acquire self-rescue skills, and apply fitness principles in training workouts. Bronze Star is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. BRONZE MEDALLION Candidates acquire the assessment and problem-solving skills needed to make good decisions in, on and around the water. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for Assistant Lifeguard training in Bronze Cross. BRONZE CROSS The Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Cross begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as Assistant Lifeguards.This course is worth two Grade 11 High School credits and is the prerequisite for the National Lifeguard (NL) award. STANDARD FIRST AID (SFA) W/ CPR C This comprehensive course covers: choking, wound care, strains, sprains and dislocations, breathing emergencies, sudden medical conditions, head and spine injuries, poisons, as well as treatment for chest pain, stroke, and shock. Includes CPR C and AED training for adults, children and infants. WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR MODULE 1 & 2 Prepares and certifies candidates to teach the Red Cross Swim and Water Safety Programs. Candidates are assessed on their ability to plan, teach, and evaluate the Red Cross Swim programs. Module 1 includes stroke evaluation, instructor emergency response skills, and an online component (approx. 20hrs). Module 2 includes 8-12 hours of practice teaching, as well as classroom and pool components. NATIONAL LIFEGUARD (NL) - POOL OPTION NL education is designed to develop a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, a mature and responsible attitude and the skills and fitness required by lifeguards. Intended for those seeking employment as a lifeguard.

*YOU ARE NOW CERTIFIED TO APPLY AS A Lifeguard & Swimming Instructor WITH THE CITY OF SURREY! SECOND TRY ASSURANCE: If you fail a course (excludes recertification), you may retake the course one additional time for just the cost of the examination fee. To be eligible, 100% attendance, participation, and completion of all assignments is required. Not applicable on program withdrawals.

15yrs+ NL Pool option CPR-C

NATIONAL LIFEGUARD (NL) - WATERPARK OPTION Learn to manage the challenges of a waterpark environment including: waves, waterslides, and multiple pools.

LIFESAVING INSTRUCTOR Certifies candidates to teach and evaluate the Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross programs and is worth one Grade 11 High School credit. BCRPA FITNESS THEORY & INSTRUCTOR AQUAFIT MODULE Become a certified fitness leader!This course and specialty module are required to become a certified BCRPA Aquafit Instructor.
