Each year, thousands of individuals in the City of Surrey volunteer their time and skills to help make our community a better place. On this day, we celebrate the power of volunteerism within the City of Surrey by recognizing our volunteers’ efforts in the services they provide in the community.

Heritage Activity Assistant

Help visitors experience life in Surrey 125 years ago through hands-on activities like churning butter, assisting with School’s Out camps and playing vintage games. Great for high school students looking for hours for graduation. Ages 14+, all training provided. Located at Historic Stewart Farm in South Surrey. To learn more, visit surrey.ca/stewartfarm or email heritagevolunteers@surrey.ca English Conversation Program Help newcomers build confidence and improve their English-speaking skills. We’re looking for volunteers who are fluent in English and have experience teaching ESL or leading group discussions. Strong communication and facilitation skills are essential. As a volunteer facilitator, you will guide small group conversations in a supportive and inclusive environment. Programs run in the fall, winter, and spring for 8 weeks each season, with a volunteer commitment of 1.5 hours per week. Our free programs take place at four Surrey Libraries, with an additional women-only group offered online Applications open in September 2025. Join this fun and rewarding program!

SPIRIT PROGRAM The Support Participation and Inclusion: Reach-out, Involve, andTransform (SPIRIT) Volunteer Program aims to: Increase involvement and access for individuals with disabilities in our community in recreation settings Encourage individuals with disabilities to volunteer by matching them with a SPIRIT volunteer for support Offer meaningful and rewarding volunteer experience Provide opportunities to cultivate personal development and education Advocate and foster opportunities for inclusion for all members of our diverse community

ADAPTED SOCIAL RECREATION PROGRAM Volunteer to support children with disabilities in participating activities such as crafts, painting, games in the gymnasium and much more. Learn new skills in communicating visually and ADAPTED SPORTS Volunteer to support participants in sports such as boccia, para ice hockey, wheelchair basketball, and power soccer. Learn support strategies, learn new physical skills while having a great time. verbally to provide the best experience for participants.

Join Friends of the Forest and Partners in Parks to care for Surrey’s parks, including the urban forest and feature gardens! Sign up for updates on tree plantings, invasive plant removals, park cleanups, and more. Help keep Surrey parks beautiful and inspire others to take part! See page 101 for more information.
