Sekuentol By JoanWilliams and Sekuentol: sxʷəlməxʷɑʔɬ stəltɑləw̓: Our People’s Rivers by Phyllis Atkins Adjacent to each other on the King George Bridge at Nicomekl, JoanWilliams’ Sekuentol and Phyllis Atkins’ Sekuentol: sxʷəlməxʷɑʔɬ stəltɑləw̓: Our People’s Rivers form a captivating narrative of Indigenous heritage and unity. Williams’ artwork, inspired by canoe journeys, showcases interconnected hands symbolizing mutual support, fittingly serving as a bridge between the Kwantlen and Semiahmoo communities. Atkins’ depiction of the Nicomekl River pays homage to Indigenous history, featuring a convergence of wolf and thunderbird canoes, symbolizing the meeting point of the Kwantlen and Semiahmoo Nations. Together, these artworks celebrate cultural richness and interconnectedness.
