Definitions In conjunction with the City of Surrey Sign Bylaw, as amended, the following definitions out- line and illustrate common signs related to Development Permit guidelines for Signs: Awning/ Canopy Sign A sign painted on, attached to, or constructed on the surface of an awning or canopy, providing weather protection beyond a roof eave, that may include letters, charac- ters, graphics and numbers. Fascia Sign A sign displayed on a building face on a plane generally parallel to the face of a build- ing. Freestanding Sign Individual Panels A sign attached to the ground that is independent of any building or structure located on the same lot. Also known as Pylon Sign or Monument Sign.

On free-standing signs, the separate panels used by tenants to advertise within a multi-tenant building. Any sign not permanently attached to the ground or a building on which the information displayed can be changed manually or automatically using de- tachable letters, charac- ters, numbers, pictorial panels or graphics. A sign attached to and projecting outward from the face of a building. Does not include wall, canopy or fascia signs. Also known as a Blade Sign. (Illustr.) Non-illuminated, portable sign having an “A” shape which is set upon the ground and has not exter- nal support elements. Individual letters, charac- ters, graphics or numbers on a sign either with or without lighting. Also known as Cut-Out, Chan- nel, Stencil-Cut and/or Routed Letters. (Illustr.)
