DP1.2 GAS STATION

BL 18787

Driveway Access The following design elements shall be considered for Gas Stations in Commercial Centres: 57. Site layout should be based on the

functional requirements of an average- sized vehicle. Large delivery trucks should be restricted to a dedicated or outside lane. Minimize the number and the width of the entry points to the site to limit open views over the large paved areas. Access driveways to the site should be restricted to two from the primary street and to one from the secondary street. Access driveways should be located as far away from the intersec- tion as possible. (illustr.) Raised curbs should be used to slow vehicles entering the site, minimize the interruption of the sidewalk and reduce views toward the paved areas.

Pavement Standards The following design elements shall be considered for Gas Stations in Commercial Centres: 60. Break up the asphalt areas with con- crete bands and/or pavers of con-

trasting color to reduce the impact of large paved areas viewed from above.

COMMERCIAL CENTRES 61. Use other types of paving (e.g. con- trasting texture and color) to identify customer parking areas, gas pump service areas and pedestrian routes from the sidewalk to the commercial store. (illustr.)

62. Continuity of the public sidewalk

should be maintained and reinforced across driveways to the site by using contrasting pavement.
