SFS Annual Report 2025
Department Goals Moving Forward J Collaborate with BC Emergency Health Services to advance projects aimed at exploring alternative and more efficient approaches for Fire and Ambulance responses to medical emergencies. J Continue to pursue internal and external opportunities to diversify firefighter recruitment through local partnerships with educational institutions, businesses and athletic organizations. J Enhance positive public interactions with the first responders, by delivering cultural sensitivity training to staff to help break down barriers as well as promote an inclusive work environment. J Create opportunities for youth to gain experience and exposure to the job requirements associated with a career in firefighting by implementing an accredited youth academy in partnership with Surrey Schools. J Maintain and review the effectiveness of various programs that lead to Community Risk Reduction for fire and life safety. J Major infrastructure upgrades, including fire hall expansions and a new replacement facility, are underway to meet increasing operational and community needs. A portion of the funding for these projects is contingent upon the adoption of a Fire Protection Development Cost Charge bylaw as part of the 2025 update to the Development Cost Charges bylaw. J Prepare the Surrey Emergency Program for upcoming changes and impacts on the City for compliance with the new Emergency and Disaster Management Act. J Continue to utilize existing fleet resources in a manner that maximizes operational capability while projecting replacement needs to proactively time the procurement process. J Expand employee preventative health screening programs and provide data driven health and wellness education sessions. J Continue review of the Fire Safety Act and regulations to update city bylaws and related processes for alignment with the changes in the new legislation. J Assess the viability of adopting advanced AI platforms to deploy AI agents within fire services , with the objective of enhancing analytical capabilities and operational efficiency.
