SPIRIT Program The Support Participation and Inclusion: Reach-out, Involve, andTransform (SPIRIT) Volunteer Program aims to: Increase involvement and access for individuals with disabilities in our community in recreation settings Encourage individuals with disabilities to volunteer by matching them with a SPIRIT volunteer for support Offer meaningful and rewarding volunteer experience Provide opportunities to cultivate personal development and education Advocate and foster opportunities for inclusion for all members of our diverse community ADAPTED SOCIAL RECREATION PROGRAM Volunteer to support children with disabilities in participating activities such as crafts, painting, games in the gymnasium and much more. Learn new skills in communicating visually and verbally to provide the best experience for participants. ADAPTED SPORTS Volunteer to support participants in sports such as boccia, para ice hockey, wheelchair basketball, and power soccer. Learn support strategies, learn new physical skills while having a great time.
City-Wide Special Events – Opportunities for Volunteers PARTY FOR THE PLANET The City of Surrey hosts its annual Earth Day celebration ‘Party for the Planet’ at Civic Plaza in April. Attendees are able to visit various booths to learn about Surrey’s various sustainable initiatives. SPARK In May, Surrey SPARK Stages brings the magic of the performing arts to kids and families. Our shows and events are the perfect way to introduce the young people in your life to the magic of the performing arts. Make a positive impact while connecting with children in our community.Take part in your choice of sport, art, dance, drama, science and themed camps this summer! Work closely with City staff to develop your skills, knowledge and experience. Dates, times and locations are flexible! Park Volunteer Programs surrey.ca/parkprograms Join Friends of the Forest and Partners in Parks to care for Surrey’s urban forest. Sign up for updates on tree planting, invasive plant removal, park cleanups, and more. Help keep Surrey’s parks beautiful and inspire others to take part! See page 100 for more information. English Conversation Program
Are you Fluent in English with previous experience in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) or simply interested in helping newcomers practice their English-speaking skills? We’re looking for volunteers with strong communication and leadership skills to facilitate our in-person and online English Conversation Programs. Commitment of 1.5 hours/week for 6 sessions each season is required. ESS ON-CALL VOLUNTEER RESPONDER Emergency Support Services (ESS) is designed to provide immediate support to people affected by disasters. ESS offers short-term assistance including shelter, food, clothing and family reunification to evacuees displaced from their homes. In Surrey, the ESS Level 2 program (supporting larger-scale emergencies) is delivered by staff and assisted by volunteers who connect directly with evacuees at temporary reception centres in City facilities. Volunteers must be 18+ to be part of this position. For more information, please email ESS@surrey.ca
