Carefully designed access to the Biodiversity Preserve provides opportunities for you to get outdoors and connect with nature. WHY BIODIVERSITY MATTERS Biodiversity is the variety of life we find in our urban forest—animals, plants, fungi, and even microorganisms (like bacteria) that make up our natural world. Each of these species and organisms work together, like an intricate web, to maintain balance and support life. Biodiversity supports everything in nature that we need to survive: food, clean water, medicine, and shelter. Surrey has over 800 parks and 600 of them prioritize nature They protect natural areas, open space, and biodiversity preserves as part of the larger green infrastructure network.
