Lots and lots of man power (aka lots of police officers). RCMP has done the best they could have with what they have...one huge cost effective solution would be to increase the current amount of RCMP like VPDs roster however cheaper do to salaries. Maintain and build the RCMP as Surrey’s police force. Bring the manpower totals up to those of other major metropolitan centres. Maintain the existing RCMP service and stop this ridiculous plan for a local police force. Increase funding for addicts/homeless support.

Major capital cost for transitioning = increased taxes Major annual operating cost increase = increased taxes Loss of annual Federal subsidy = increased taxes Local police members does not mean they live in Surrey RCMP are professional.

Make a new department that is municipal as soon as possible. make children able to go and walk around thier homes freely without being worried. public spaces being safe for children and adults. Make community safer.

Make more rounds and more of a visible presence to save the future of our kids.

Make our city safe and family friendly. Police need to be able to respond to local issues quickly, and the officers should represent our community. We need to have a mix of officers that matches our community demographics so that kids can relate. Make sure the cost of shifting over from RCMP to city force is accurate. I’m very Leary that the mayor has any REAL idea what the cost will be. The effect of this shift could have big increases added to our property taxes. Make the new policing plan public. Put it on the City of Surrey website. Detail the costs associated with implementing this new department. How much will my property taxes increase in the next 5 years? Make this worth the effort. The gun violence needs to be addressed. Perhaps we could have new judges too, that would help immediately.
