Surrey Police Consultation Data

The RCMP just needs adequate personnel which has been denied. I think it is a colossal waste of tax payers money to establish a city police force. More attention and money is needed for roads!

The RCMP maintains that their detachment in Surrey is a local police force: it’s had a presence since 1951. The average time an officer spends there is seven years and 38 per cent of them also live in Surrey. WE DO NOT NEED OR WANT "LOCAL" POLICE The RCMP must stay. We need a national approach since it works well in every city that has the RCMP. Hire more RCMP officers here and give them the tools they need. Do not change to a different police force. Listen to the people. We live here.

The rcmp protocol works well in smaller cities...having worked for both municipal and rcmp, i believe municipal doctrine is far superior in providing competent and trust in the community.

The RCMP should be focused on cross cutting issues and a Surrey municipal police force should focus on community policing. Other cities as large as Surrey have their own police force. The residents of Surrey also deserve our own police force. The report should be made public, then consultations should be held with all the available information. As the Mayor received 41% percent of the vote, he can hardly say this is the will of the majority; a binding referendum should be held. The safety of its citizens as RCMP is not working . Need a city police who will connect with the community to help reduce crime in Surrey the specific needs of the city must be addressed, and those who know the city best should be employed The standard of safety in Surrey has gone down. We need a higher standard of safety all around in Surrey. The whole transition from the RCMP is being forced on the majority or Surrey citizens that didn’t vote for McCallum. In his election platform many people voted in favour of the sky train rather than a new police force. We still don’t know the costs. There is a lack of resources right now for the rcmp. They are lacking a few hundred members to properly police and area as large as surrey. The fact that the mayor cancelled the ice arena in Cloverdale, children activities and high prop taxes is bad There is no need for a new Surrey Police department. The RCMP have a long and diverse experience in Surrey. It would be better to address the areas that need improvement in the Surrey force with RCMP administration. No need to re invent the wheel.
