Surrey Police Consultation Data

WE need to keep the RCMP and hire more of them. We need to agree with them to have a local board to help advise. WE DO NOT need to spend millions on our own police force at this time, a certainly if you do it, then take more time to plan and do it We need to know the numbers and cost. If it's not going to change the number of officers or reduce our costs then we should not switch to a Surrey Police Department. We need to weigh all factors before a final decision is made. We need to see more police on the streets proactively solving crimes that involve gangs. I live in Fleetwood and am seeing lots more homeless people cropping up, harassing me for money. We need more police in Fleetwood. We need to see proactive policing. If all you do is respond and take a report (what happened when my neighbour was broken into) then why not just do that over the phone. Surrey PD is long overdue and I support the transition 100%. We should be hiring more RCMP instead of this disrupting transition and let them do their job. I strong disagree of this transition. We should hav our own department. We should have more RCMP now. Not hiring officers because the mayor is on a mission to have a police force he can control is foolish. There is no mandate to change and if the mayor really does not know that, it is a reflection of his shortcomings. We should not be moving forward to establish a new Surrey Police Department until there has been a full costing & program disclosure to the residents & they have direct say as to whether this should even go forward based on factual information!!!!! We should NOT be removing rcmp. This is a HUGE mistake. RCMP have created long standing partnerships and relationships in community. I did NOT vote for the removal of rcmp. City of Surrey is wasting $ w this process. We should not move forward on a local Police Force. The cost is too much, a number of issues have not been identified (Cost of cars insurance, cost of liability for actions by Surrey Police officers-now covered by Fed Govt, Medical Liability, etc. we should stay with the RCMP. We shouldn't. Surrey should remain with the RCMP. But if we do - cost-containment and integration with specialized regional police teams. We trust Doug McCallum. We want Surrey police because they won't get shipped to a new location they will build their career in Surrey We want the RCMP. Rotating members around is a good idea.
