Winter Exhibitions AT SURREY ART GALLERY Experience new art, new ideas, and new media at Surrey’s contemporary art museum. Admission is free. Everyone is welcome. Nicoletta Baumeister: In the Realm of Perception January 19–March 24 Opening Party: Saturday, January 19 | 7:30−9pm A fascinating look at the limits of human perception, Surrey-based artist Nicoletta Baumeister’s paintings combine hyperrealistic images of nature with studies in pure colour. By showing different ways of seeing the same subject, Baumeister uses art to question the way we come to understand the world around us.

Join our dynamic team of volunteers to enrich visitors’ experiences of contemporary art and your own as well! Contact Chris Dawson-Murphy, Volunteer Program Coordinator: artsvolunteer@surrey.ca | 604-501-5198 Docents (Gallery Educators) Join a dynamic community of volunteers dedicated to enriching art education for children! Surrey Art Gallery Docents lead engaging tours of contemporary art exhibitions from September to June. Participants take part in ongoing training with art educators, curators, and artists.

Emily Carr University of Art + Design, majoring in critical and cultural practices. This winter, she’ll be teaching Draw, Paint, Create! and Art Mediums & Masters.

Hilary Young Hilary Young is passionate about introducing young artists to art-rich environments

that encourage creative expression, imagination, joyfulness, and a love of

learning. She has over fifteen years of experience teaching

art to a wide range of ages, and her background includes a graphic design diploma and a BA honours in textile design from Edinburgh Art School in Scotland. Hilary has won multiple awards and has exhibited widely. This winter, she’ll be teaching a trio of preschool classes on Sunday afternoons – Art Explosion: Parent Participation, Art Explosion, and Mud Buddies.

Triangle Trade: Camille Turner, Jérôme Havre, and Cauleen Smith January 19–March 24 This short film features three puppet avatars, one for each artist. They navigate different worlds that isolate them and provide opportunities for meaningful connections. As they move through their respective landscapes, the puppets and the voices of their creators reflect on being black in North America today and offer a hopeful view of what it could be like in the future.

Pauline Tiongson Pauline Tiongson is a practicing artist and visual art instructor. After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, specializing in drawing and painting, she found her love of teaching young

artists, guiding them as they develop their craft. Pauline teaches at various art centres in the Lower Mainland, and is active in the art community. She recently joined Surrey Art Gallery as an art instructor, and this winter she’ll be teaching Afterschool Clay, Just Paint, and Paint Plus.

Children’s Art Program Assistants Inspire young artists to express their creativity! Volunteer at art classes or day camps where you’ll develop leadership skills, prepare for art projects, supervise students, and assist artist-educators.
