MESSAGE FROM Mayor Doug McCallum As we continue to work our way through the COVID pandemic, the opportunity to safely play, exercise and explore has never been more important. The safety of our patrons and staff is our top priority as we reopen our facilities and reintroduce programs. All activities and facilities strictly meet or exceed the health and safety guidelines set out by the Provincial Health Officer. With your help by following Provincial Health guidelines and providing proof of vaccination, we can all look forward to getting back to the things we love best. Whether it’s hitting the weight room, playing hoops or perfecting your yoga pose, Recreation Surrey has thousands of programs for all ages and all levels of ability. Despite the pandemic, the City of Surrey continues to push forward in increasing the inventory of our recreational offerings through the construction of new facilities, purchase of new parkland and upgrading aging park infrastructure. Residents can now enjoy Surrey’s newest recreation centre. The award-winning Clayton Community Centre officially opened in October and features a state-of the-art fitness studio, the Clayton library, and creative arts programming. In Newton, groundwork is being done in preparation for construction of the new Newton Community Centre and work is moving along for the new Cloverdale Ice and Sport Complex, the new Athletics Centre at Bear Creek Park and on the major expansion of the Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre. This past summer 12 new Pickleball Courts were opened in South Surrey along with the City’s newest neighbourhood green space, Edgewood Park. Our playing fields have also been revamped with new artificial turf at Hjorth Road Park and Cloverdale Athletic Park. Council is also moving ahead with the installation of new track surfaces at Newton Athletic Park and South Surrey Athletic Park. The City of Surrey takes great pride in ensuring our residents have the opportunity to enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle, regardless of income or ability. As we continue to build strong, healthy communities where people of all ages can be active participants and engaged for life, I invite you to take full advantage of our recreation facilities and quality programs led by our highly trained staff. A safe, healthy and active lifestyle awaits you at Surrey Parks and Recreation.
