As we turn the page on a new year–packing up decorations, grazing leftovers and dusting off alarm clocks for our first day back at work–it’s common to feel a little blue these days. Scarce sunlight and chilly temperatures have a way of making hibernation seem like a novel idea! With that said, it’s important to remember that a new year represents new beginnings. With countless events and activities to explore this season, the City of Surrey can help you make the most out of 2023 by embracing new experiences and building a sense of community. Turkey entrées, eggnog cocktails and gingerbread treats are sweet while they last, but they can leave you feeling a little sluggish after the holiday season wraps up. Dive back into a regular exercise routine through a variety of aquatic fitness activities offered at South Surrey Indoor Pool this winter! Since reopening last September, locals can once again enjoy drop-in swimming, aquafit classes, performance training and more. Among the pool’s several amenities, the two dry heat saunas will undoubtedly provide reprieve for brave participants of this year’s Polar Bear Swim!

North Surrey Sport & Ice Complex 10950 126A Street Lace up your skates and spend a day at the rink this winter! Gather friends and family to create lasting memories during a public skate at one of the City’s newest arena complexes. Glide along to your favourite tunes sharing smiles, laughs and joyful moments during one of the season’s most popular activities. Afterwards, be sure to savour a warm drink and sweet treat at the state-of-the-art concession and lounge area!

What’s better than cozying up to a warm fire and binge-watching your favourite shows and movies during the cold season? Experiencing them firsthand!The Museum of Surrey is taking you closer to the action this winter with their latest exhibit, Surrey on Screen. In association with Warner Bros. Archives of Los Angeles, explore a vast collection of props, posters and photographs used in Surrey film and television productions. Walk the red carpet, make a cameo at one of Surrey’s popular filming locations with the exhibit’s interactive green screen station and more! Admission is free and the exhibit runs until April 17.

Historic Stewart Farm 13723 Crescent Road Step back in time and experience history firsthand at Historic Stewart Farm this winter! Located in Elgin Heritage Park, this picturesque local historic site uses its eight heritage buildings and an extensive collection of artifacts to highlight agricultural life in Surrey during the 1890s.The Farm takes on a new atmosphere at this time of year, allowing visitors to learn more about the challenges the Stewart family faced during the cold winter months. Join us for a free guided tour with a knowledgeable costumed docent, explore the site’s unique heritage farm buildings and learn a bit more about this hidden gem in South Surrey! Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Godwin Farm Biodiversity Preserve Park 9016 164 Street Pack your mittens and immerse yourself in Surrey’s unique, natural environment at Godwin Farm Biodiversity Preserve Park this season. Escape the city and quiet your mind while weaving your way through looping nature trails. Home to birds and other wildlife, the park’s towering sequoia, redwood and fir trees–along with a picturesque pond–enhance crisp morning walks and peaceful afternoon strolls. With a little luck, you might just be fortunate enough to witness the park transform into a winter wonderland following fresh snowfall! To protect important wildlife habitat, no dogs (on or off-leash) are permitted in the park.
