Lessons are offered Saturdays between 9am–1pm 30 minutes for Preschool and Swimmer 1-2 Levels 45 minutes for Swimmer 3-6 Levels 60 minutes forYouth Levels

SWIM ADAPTED ONE TO ONE Adapted swim lessons for children and youth with disabilities are offered in an integrated model within skill and age specific classes. One-to-one staff are provided within a group lesson.

How to Sign Up 1. Visit surrey.ca/register – select your preference between FOR BROAD SEARCH: Type “Swim Adapted” in the search field and select the course that applies to your child/youth (Preschool, Children orYouth) at your desired location. FOR FOCUSED SEARCH: Follow the steps including your child’s age, find the swim lesson under Adapted or Aquatics and select your desired location.

2. WAITLIST your child/youth in the course and answer the questionnaire. You can waitlist at multiple locations. 3. Staff will email you to confirm your registration if a spot is available and provide instructions to complete an online participant profile form. 4. Surrey Sport and Leisure Complex

Preschoolers learn how to get in and out of the water, put their face in the water, blow bubbles, float and glide. Preschool 1 is a transitional level where the preschooler transfers to the care of the instructor. As swimmers progress they will grab objects from underwater, be in deep water and work on kicking.

4–5yrs

Preschoolers learn how to be in deep water while wearing a PFD and progress on their floats, glides and kicking. As they master these skills, front crawl will be introduced. Recommended: completed Swim Preschool 2 or 3.

4–5yrs

SPORTS

Sign up your preschooler to learn the Swim to Survive® skills wearing a PFD. Front and back crawl are introduced as well as interval fitness training. Preschoolers also learn how to tread water and perform a vertical whip kick with a buoyant aid. Once complete, preschoolers can register into Swimmer 2.

Swim Adapted – One to One Preschool 5 – Narwhal

Boccia Adapted Learn the basics of boccia through games and activities. Boccia is a Paralympic sport for persons with physical disabilities and is adapted to be played in a gym with custom balls and equipment. Program delivered in partnership with SportAbility. NEWTON 8 Sessions $65.20 6yrs+ M 4:15pm–5:30pm Jan 15 352057 Newton Recreation Centre Wheelchair Basketball Learn the skills and fundamental movements of wheelchair basketball through games and drills. Wheelchair basketball is a fast-paced Paralympic sport for people of all abilities. This adapted sport is hosted in partnership with BCWheelchair Basketball Society. Beginner swimmers will become comfortable in the water with and without help. Children will work on their floats, glides and kicking skills. After these skill are mastered, swimmers learn to be comfortable in deep water and falling sideways into the water while wearing a PFD.

5–12yrs

Swim Adapted – One to One Swimmer 1 Children

Locations: Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre; Guildford Recreation Centre; Newton Recreation Centre; Surrey Sport & Leisure

Swimmers become increasingly comfortable in the water without help. Children will work on their floats, glides and kicking skills. Once mastered, swimmers are introduced to front and back crawl, whip kick and Water Smart activities.

5–12yrs

Swim Adapted – One to One Swimmer 2 Children

Locations: Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre; Guildford Recreation Centre; Newton Recreation Centre; Surrey Sport & Leisure

Children learn how to dive, somersault and handstand to develop weight-transfer skills. They will learn Swim to Survive® standards, whip kick on their back and develop front and back crawl. Once these skills are completed they will learn how to dive, tread water and swim underwater, do front and back crawl and how to breaststroke. Recommended: completed level 2 or 3.

5–12yrs

Swim Adapted – One to One Swimmer 3–4 Children

Locations: Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre; Guildford Recreation Centre; Newton Recreation Centre; Surrey Sport & Leisure

Children will learn diving, swimming in deep water, developing their egg beater kick and breaststroke, and front and back crawl. Swimmers will also improve their head-up swims and interval training and do a 300m workout to gain strength and endurance.

5–12yrs

Swim Adapted – One to One Swimmer 5–6 Children

Locations: Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre; Guildford Recreation Centre; Newton Recreation Centre; Surrey Sport & Leisure

Learn how to safely enter shallow and deep water and be introduced to floats, glides, flutter kick and whip kick. Learn how to wear a PFD and control your breathing in the water.

13–18yrs

Swim Adapted – One to One Youth Swimmer 1

Locations: Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre; Guildford Recreation Centre; Newton Recreation Centre; Surrey Sport & Leisure

SPRING BREAK DAY CAMPS ONE TO ONE SUPPORT

Recreational level one to one support for children with disabilities in day camps offered in partnership with the Surrey Association for Community Living. Support available for a maximum of one weeks per child and will be reviewed upon registration. Questions? Email inclusion@surrey.ca.
