Department Goals Moving Forward J Collaborate with BC Emergency Health Services to advance projects aimed at exploring alternative and more efficient approaches for Fire and Ambulance responses to medical emergencies. J Continue to pursue internal and external opportunities to diversify firefighter recruitment through local partnerships with educational institutions, businesses and athletic organizations. J Enhance positive public interactions with the first responders, by delivering cultural sensitivity training to staff to help break down barriers as well as promote an inclusive work environment. J Provide opportunities for youth to gain experience and exposure to the job requirements associated with a career in firefighting to support recruitment. J Maintain and review the effectiveness of various programs that lead to Community Risk Reduction for fire and life safety. J Fire Hall replacement and expansion planning to add capacity for growth and enhance public safety in the context of fire first response for the citizens in the City. J Prepare the Surrey Emergency Program for upcoming changes and impacts on the City for compliance with the new Emergency and Disaster Management Act. J Increase public education related to electrified devices (Battery Energy Storage Systems, Photovoltaic power supply and Lithium-Ion batteries) to reduce the risk of fire, injury and death from these technologies. J Continue to utilize existing fleet resources in a manner that maximizes operational capability while projecting replacement needs to proactively time the procurement process. J Expand the employee preventative health screening program to include Cholesterol monitoring with clinical education. J Review the Fire Safety Act and regulations to update city bylaws and related processes for alignment with the changes in the new legislation.
