2024 Surrey Fire Service Annual Report

Firefighting Workshops In addition to the Women in Firefighting workshops, in 2024 Surrey Fire Service launched workshops offered to anyone wanting to become a firefighter. The workshops are designed to meet varying levels of fire experience from awareness to skill enhancement. Level 1 Provides an overview of the job of a firefighter, including an introduction into a firefighter career and the typical hiring process that is involved on being successfully hired. Participants experience various job requirements such as, wearing a self contained breathing apparatus while performing job functions. Level 2 Includes a review of the physical testing requirements to complete the firefighter physical assessment and provides an opportunity to try each of the testing stations with a peer fitness trainer. Level 3 A practical hands-on workshop that gives participants an opportunity to become familiar with many of the tasks and equipment used in firefighting.
