2024 Firefighter Recruitment

Significant recruitment efforts were undertaken to complete three separate hiring processes to address attrition and to fulfill the additions supported by Mayor and Council to hire firefighters. The year saw a focused approach to attract qualified candidates from various backgrounds, ensuring our firefighting team reflects the diversity of our community. Throughout the year, we successfully recruited a number of new firefighters, bolstering our emergency response capabilities. Recruitment events were held at various community locations, along with outreach programs that provided information about a career in firefighting. These initiatives not only increased awareness about the profession but also encouraged local residents to consider joining the team.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Surrey Fire Services strives to create opportunities such as the Firefighting workshops developed as a strategy to increase awareness to those underrepresented in the fire service and support equitable access to information to increase diversity. To further this objective, the Surrey Fire Services retained a consultant to adapt current processes and develop new initiatives aimed at attracting underrepresented populations to a career that aligns with their values and aspirations.
