ECONOMIC PROSPERITY & LIVELIHOODS

Surrey Fire Regional Dispatch is at the forefront of the Next Generation 9-1-1 transition in B.C. Upgraded modern call handling (phone) systems are in the final testing phases with TELUS and are expected to be completed and go-live ready in early 2025; Created a dedicated space for dispatch training within our existing facility at Fire Hall 10 in Newton, which would provide improved training opportunities and scheduling flexibility; Coordinated 26 Level 1 Emergency Support Service (“ESS”) responses for 109 displaced residents at single family dwellings;

394 smoke alarms installed at single-family residences during HomeSafe inspections, including 12,716 smoke alarm verification tests; Operated a well-managed in-house Dispatch Services unit which strategically allows for increased control of quality and costs of service for Surrey and over 50 client agencies; and Utilized the Surrey Fire Service Central Training Facility as a venue to deliver planned annual training for staff. Continued to attract client business through facility rental.

ECOSYSTEMS

• Published research paper illustrating the evidence-based decision making used for strategic planning and emergency activity: Commercial Structure Fires: Impact of Risk-Based Inspections on Fire Outcomes; and

A multi-year review on the effectiveness of disincentive fees on nuisance calls for service for false fire alarms, showed a 46% decrease in percentage of Residential units invoiced for false alarms from 2023 to 2024.
