FUTURE INITIATIVES, GOALS & OBJECTIVES
INCLUSION
• Continue to pursue internal and external opportunities to diversify firefighter recruitment through local partnerships with educational institutions, businesses and athletic organizations;
• Enhance positive public interactions with the first responders, by delivering cultural sensitivity training to staff to help break down barriers as well as promote an inclusive work environment; and • Provide opportunities for youth to gain experience and exposure to the job requirements associated with a career in firefighting.
PUBLIC SAFETY
• Maintain and review effectiveness of various programs that lead to Community Risk Reduction for fire and life safety.
Targeted campaigns to raise awareness about a career in the fi re service
ECONOMIC PROSPERITY & LIVELIHOODS
Continue to utilize existing fleet resources in a manner that maximizes operational capability while projecting replacement needs to proactively start the procurement process; •
Prepare the Surrey Emergency Program for upcoming changes and impacts on the City for compliance with the new Emergency and Disaster Management Act; and • Continue to promote the City’s online applications processes to increase use

of the more streamlined and cost efficient service delivery method.
ECOSYSTEMS
• Continue to align with the City’s aim to lower greenhouse gas emissions and reduce fuel consumption by incorporating modern technologies into new apparatus, purchase of hybrid fleet vehicles and electric small equipment.
