STRATEGIC PRIORITY 2: EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT AND WELLNESS Develop programs to support leadership development within SPS

Developed and delivered seven online modules to all newly promoted Sergeants to equip them for their new supervisory role. Provided access to Open Sesame training courses for civilian employees to develop skills and competencies. Developed and implemented the FASTTrack training program to support SPS recruits in their first three years of service. Increment training – four days/year, mandatory. Focus on enhancing Operational and Professional Skills. Launched the multi-level Enhanced Investigator Skills Program to provide foundational, structured, and progressive training to develop officers’ investigative skills. Delivered 259 operational training events to SPS officers. SPS psychological consultant spent over 400 hours working with SPS employees in 2024. Employee Services Section completed over 1,200 employee check-ins to support staff and offer resources as required. 17 employees trained on reintegration to prepare officers to return to work after they have been exposed to life-or-death trauma in the course of their duties. 14 additional sworn and civilian members trained for Critical Incident AftercareTeam.These employees are trained to respond to Critical Incidents and perform peer lead defusings. 16 critical incident defusings were held in 2024. SPS’s second formal community consultation was conducted in 2024 through a community survey of residents, interviews, and focus groups with key community stakeholders. Consultation with land based and urban Indigenous populations, and with Surrey Indigenous Service providers to inform SPS’s Indigenous strategy. Consultation and engagement with numerous community and government services and schools to develop SPS’s youth strategy. Hosted first annual SPSYouth Soccer Academy.
