UTILITY OVERVIEW TRANSPORTATION

MISSION STATEMENT To improve the quality of life for those living, working or recreating in Surrey through a safe, efficient, equitable and sustainable transportation system where individuals can choose a variety of modes to travel comfortably and conveniently to their destination. KEY PROGRAMS AND SERVICES Transportation services, which are partially funded through the Roads & Traffic Safety Levy, are delivered by the Transportation Division, which plans for current and future transportation infrastructure and services and ensures the safe and efficient operation of the system. The City is in the process of updating the Surrey Transportation Plan, which will provide strategic directions for transportation in Surrey. The Surrey Transportation Plan is supported by several other important plans and initiatives: the Digital Transportation Strategy (2022), the Electric Mobility Strategy (2021), and the award-winning Vision Zero Surrey Safe Mobility Plan (2019). Transportation provides services ranging from award-winning winter maintenance, sweeping and road repaving, to planning and delivering infrastructure in support of transit, walking, cycling and automobiles as well as improving traffic flow through intelligent transportation systems, like our highly acclaimed Traffic Management Centre and Advanced Traveller Information System (“ATIS”).

2024 ACCOMPLISHMENTS

INCLUSION

• Presented at the Surrey Senior’s Transportation Forum on King George Boulevard Bus Rapid Transit (“BRT”); • Progressed the work on updating the City’s traffic calming program to include pro-active reviews, equity considerations, and a larger toolbox of improvements in order to help improve road safety and encourage lower speeds; and

• Hosted pop-up Transportation open houses at Party for the Planet, Car Free Day and Fusion Fest to give Surrey residents an opportunity to discuss transportation issues with City staff.
