PUBLIC SAFETY
• Handed out 5,500 reflective snap bracelets to school-aged Surrey kids at Party for the Planet, Car Free Day, and Fusion Fest; • Finalized plans for the North Surrey Protected Cycling Network, focused on town centres, connections to SkyTrain, and connections between town centres, to make cycling in North Surrey safer; • Began implementing a new capital program intended to improve road safety near certain transit stops, called the Safe Transit Access on Arterial Roads program; installed pavement markings with the word "school" to encourage slower speeds at 27 schools; Implemented Leading Pedestrian Intervals (“LPIs”) at an additional five signalized intersections, bringing the total to 141 across the City. This measure prioritizes pedestrian safety during roadway crossings; • Acted on 10,500 Service Requests to respond to safety, maintenance, and operational concerns raised by the public, 10% increase from last year; • Surrey’s Traffic Management Centre responded to 2,500 traffic collisions and related incidents, • • Completed the School Zone Awareness Pilot Program and
• Staff implemented 3,000 live traffic signal timing changes to improve safety and reduce congestion for 670 incidents, roadwork, and events. To support safety and traffic flow, responded to 500 alarms related to intelligent transportation equipment and systems that help the City manage traffic; • Implemented 14 new speed reader boards as part of a pilot program to help reduce traffic speeds and improve safety primarily near parks and schools; • Implemented 26 speed humps at 15 locations including at four schools and 10 parks, to help reduce traffic speeds and improve safety; • Responded to 31,200 service requests related to street operations and road maintenance; • Added 1,600 LED fixtures upgrades through the Capital Program and Land Development, achieving 53% LED streetlight coverage citywide; Commissioned nine new traffic signals to improve safety, walkability, and access to Surrey’s roads; and • Installed 36 new crosswalks, which includes commissioning six new pedestrian signals and two special crosswalks throughout the City to help improve pedestrian safety, accessibility, comfort, and mobility. •
