• Achieved a reduction in residential garbage tonnage of 34%; • Surrey Biofuel Facility processed 95,000 metric tonnes of organic waste
• Continued to collaborate with Metro Vancouver to rezone land to permit expansion of the North Surrey Recycling and Waste Centre and commence design for a full-scale recycling depot which will increase convenient recycling options for residents and businesses; and • Worked in partnership with Transport Canada, to remove derelict boats on the Nicomekl River in South Surrey. A variety of debris was collected, including abandoned or wrecked vessels, rafts, and associated garbage. In total, 11 industrial garbage bins were filled with debris and disposed of at a local dump.

• Diverted 85% of construction and demolition waste from the landfill and ensured that these waste materials were recycled through the Demolition and New Construction Recyclables Program; • Worked with Convertus on a plan for expanding the Surrey Biofuel Facility to support Metro Vancouver in-region solution for managing organic waste including design concepts and financial model; • Reviewed and completed necessary adjustments to the waste collection services to align with the Provincial Government Bill 44-2023 which introduced measures for BC municipalities to provide for small scale, multi-unit housing in their Zoning Bylaws. This included development of new allocation of waste carts and updates to the waste collection utility levy; • Continue to implement mitigation actions to reduce illegal dumping activity by 20% by 2026. • Renegotiate a new contract for a five year period with Recycle-BC which will
include financial incentives of approximately $7.4M per year;
• Worked with Convertus to improve productivity and efficiency to increase renewable natural gas production at the Surrey Biofuel Facility resulting in a 52% rise in RNG production and increasing the number of BC low carbon fuel supplier credits generated; and • Successfully registered in the Federal governments Clean Fuel Regulation to create low carbon fuel offset credits which can be used to generate revenue from the sale of credits from fuel suppliers that use higher carbon fuels.
