PUBLIC SAFETY—SURREY POLICE SERVICE

OFFICE OF THE CHIEF CONSTABLE The Office of the Chief Constable supports the Chief in carrying out his responsibilities in the administration and leadership of SPS. The teams provide support and advice to the Chief Constable on a variety of matters, as well as services related to legal, financial, planning, and communications. The Office of the Chief Constable supports the strategic planning process and assists the organization in meeting its goals and objectives. LOWER MAINLAND DISTRICT INTEGRATED TEAMS SPS participates in the Lower Mainland Integrated Teams, which provide specialized police services to many police agencies and RCMP detachments in the region. • Lower Mainland District Integrated Emergency Response Team (“LMD IERT”) • Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (“ICARS”) • Lower Mainland District Integrated Forensic Identification Service (“LMD IFIS”) • Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (“IHIT”) • Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service (“LMD IPDS”)

Assumed full responsibility for policing operations in South Surrey in 2025, joining Whalley/City Centre and Newton, which SPS has policed since late 2024. This transition included the

• Launched a Tactical Medic program, with 10 SPS officers now certified to administer timely lifesaving care during critical police-involved incidents. Police Medics are only used prior to the arrival of Emergency Health Services or when it is unsafe for medical staff to attend; and • In response to a concerning rise in extortion incidents, SPS stood up an in-house investigative team, provided resources to the BC Extortion Task Force, set up a dedicated tip line, provided extensive public education, implemented a Public Safety Camera program, and launched a “Project Assurance” team to provide targeted patrols to at-risk locations.
