PUBLIC SAFETY—SURREY POLICE SERVICE
Project plans and strategies were developed and implemented for a number of enforcement projects including:
COMMUNITY WELLNESS Key Activity: Collate baseline crime trend statistics Measurement: Develop localized strategies to address crime trends, district by district Key Activity: Research baseline police response to nuisance non-criminal call trends Measurement: Develop pro-active strategies to mitigate nuisance, non criminal call trends Key Activity: Bolster partnerships with City of Surrey and key stakeholders who assist the unhoused, mentally ill, and addicted Measurement: Partnerships solidified and progressing on mandates Key Activity: Evaluate current suite of community-based programming to assess mandate, role, resourcing and partnerships Measurement: Establish bilateral
• Project Zero was created to address ongoing community concerns related to individuals engaging in disruptive street level activity in key areas of Newton.
• Project Boost and Bust was launched to address
community concerns related to individuals engaging in disruptive street level activity in the City Center area.
The Homelessness Outreach Laision and Action (“HALO”) group was established. Comprised of government, City, and non-profit stakeholders, the HALO group meets weekly to discuss issues and supports related to those experiencing homelessness.
Community programs are continuously being evaluated and updated, and communication with stakeholders is ongoing.
Crime Prevention Coordinators have updated the Block Watch, volunteer, and E-Pass programs to operate under SPS.
The Road Safety Section is regularly liaising with the community to identify traffic hot spots.
