PROGRAM
BRONZE STAR Learn problem-solving and decision-making skills, get CPR training, develop water smart confidence, and learn basic lifesaving skills needed to become your own personal lifeguard. Includes a 400-metre timed swim. Recommended ages is 12 years. BRONZE MEDALLION Learn lifesaving techniques and develop stroke efficiency and endurance. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for the Bronze Cross certification. Includes a 400-metre timed swim. BRONZE CROSS Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced lifesaving training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certifications. Includes a timed 400-meter swim.

Only SFAs from the following organizations are accepted as pre-requisites:
STANDARD FIRST AID (SFA) W/ CPR C This comprehensive course covers: choking, wound care, strains, sprains and dislocations, breathing emergencies, sudden medical conditions, head and spine injuries, poisons, as well as treatment for chest pain, stroke, and shock. Includes CPR C and AED training for adults, children and infants.
Canadian Red Cross Lifesaving Society St. John's Ambulance Canadian Ski Patrol Heart & Stroke Foundation
REQUIRED * 14yrs+
SWIM INSTRUCTOR COURSE Take the training course to teach the Lifesaving Society's Swim for Life program. Swim for Life is a learn-to-swim program with levels from Parent &Tot to Leadership levels. 100% attendance & participation NATIONAL LIFEGUARD (NL) - POOL OPTION NL education is designed to develop a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, a mature and responsible attitude and the skills and fitness required by lifeguards. Intended for those seeking employment as a lifeguard.

15yrs+ Bronze Cross SFA with CPR-C
*YOU ARE NOW CERTIFIED TO APPLY AS A Lifeguard & Swimming Instructor WITH THE CITY OF SURREY! SECOND TRY ASSURANCE: If you fail a course (excludes recertification), you may retake the course one additional time at a discounted rate. To be eligible, 100% attendance, participation, and completion of all assignments is required. Not applicable on program withdrawals.
15yrs+ Bronze Cross Standard First Aid with CPR C/AED
AQUATIC EMERGENCY CARE The course focuses on first aid training in an aquatic environment. Take this course to prepare for taking an NL course after your Bronze Cross or to keep your first aid knowledge sharp after completing your National Lifeguard: Pool certification.
15yrs+ NL Pool option CPR-C 16yrs+ Bronze Cross
NATIONAL LIFEGUARD (NL) - WATER PARK OPTION Learn to manage the challenges of a water park environment including: waves, waterslides, and multiple pools.
LIFESAVING INSTRUCTOR Certifies candidates to teach and evaluate the Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross programs and is worth one Grade 11 High School credit. BCRPA FITNESS THEORY & INSTRUCTOR AQUAFIT MODULE Become a certified fitness leader!This course and specialty module are required to become a certified BCRPA Aquafit Instructor.
