2016 ACCOMPLISHMENTS

INCLUSION

 As part of the City’s Age-friendly Strategy for Seniors over 1,100 seniors participated in City forums, and community outreach sessions focused on community health, safety, connectedness and transportation. The City supported two day-long Conferences for Seniors and celebrated National Seniors Day at Surrey City Hall.

BUILT ENVIRONMENT & NEIGHBOURHOODS

 The Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre received five awards from the follow- ing:  Lieutenant Governor’s Award in Architecture – Merit – HCMA Architecture + Design;  Association of Consulting Engineers of BC the Award of Excellence – Buildings – “for professional engineering on a building, includes all engineering related to buildings such as electrical, mechanical, structural, foundations and related systems. Engineering including systems to control heating, lighting, and energy management”; Engineers of BC the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Engineering Excellence – awarded to the best project from all the Award of Excellence winners that represent excellence in engineer- ing to the highest degree in all criteria’;  Institute of Structural Engineers presented Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre with one of the highest accolades in world engineering “The Supreme Award of Structural Engineering Excellence”; and  Association of Consulting

 World Festival Architecture

(“WAF”), the architects for the Grandview Aquatic Centre were recognized for their work on this project and awarded the world’s top completed sport building award. The WAF honour was presented to local firm HCMA Architecture + Design for best architecture of a Completed Sport Building at WAF, which showcases the best in global architecture in the past 12 months, with over 350 finalists presenting projects across 32 categories

 The City of Surrey won the Equitas – International Centre for Human Rights Education, National Play It Fair! Award 2016 for exceptional work with children and youth;  The Guildford Aquatic Centre received the Lieutenant Governor’s Award in Architecture – Medal – Bing Thom Architects and SHAPE Architects. 2015 Wood Design Honor Award, Jury's Choice, Wood WORKS! BC Wood Design Award Fraser Valley

Commercial Building Awards – Excellence Award, Community Recreational;
