Surrey Museum Phase 2, Newton Athletic Park Master Plan and 10660 City Parkway Creative Cluster Arts Hub; and  The Newton Recreation Centre Facility expansion includes a new 4,700 sq. ft. mat room for various fitness activities that will include bathrooms, elevator access and a spectator viewing area. The ground level fitness space is doubled in size and an inviting new 412 sq. ft. lobby has been designed for families and community social engagement. Childminding is a new addition to the services offered and a new outdoor playground on the facility grounds will provide fun for children.

 The Public Art Program celebrated the unveiling of several new artworks. For the Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre, Four Season Drums by Brandon Gabriel was commissioned by the Lehigh Hansen Materials Limited in partnership with Seyem’ Qwantlen Business Group of the Kwantlen First Nation, and gifted to the City of Surrey. For the Grandview Aquatic Centre, a pair of iconic sculptures titled Circulation , by the artist team Cooke Sasseville were unveiled. Water Guard- ians , by Salish artist, Susan Point was unveiled at the Hazelgrove Park. The City’s public art banners also featured a design of frogs by Susan Point in 2016. A temporary mural design titled Chrys- alis by Surrey artist, Thomas Nelles, will surround the Surrey Central SkyTrain station this year;  Planning is underway to deliver on the adopted 2016 to 2020 Capital Plan for Parks and Recreation Capital Projects which includes the North Surrey Triple Ice Surface Replacement, Cloverdale Twin Ice Surface, Clayton Recreation & Culture Facilities, 2 Artificial Turf Fields,
