Part D – Policies
OBJECTIVE
8.5 Advance energy independence, resilience and sustainability while ensuring utilities keep pace with growth.
POLICY ACTIONS
8.5.1
Encourage the development of more compact and ef fi cient land uses and servicing systems, using existing infrastructure systems ef fi ciently through infill and intensification to minimize the costs of new utility infrastructure. Recognize that neighbourhoods will continue to have different levels of service for streetlights, sidewalks and drainage, and that retro fi tting will be addressed first in high priority areas and areas experiencing significant redevelopment, in the context of neighbourhood equity. New development will be required to meet current standards.
8.5.3
Regularly update the 10-Year Servicing Plan to identify the infrastructure works and services necessary to meet the needs of the City’s existing population and to support growth. Work with senior levels of government, crown corporations and private partners to deliver major infrastructure improvements, including transportation, communication, and utility infrastructure. Provide thermal energy to new buildings in City Centre through financially sustainable District Energy Systems.
8.5.4
