OBJECTIVE
4.3 Provide a public space network that is accessible, centrally located and well-connected.
POLICY ACTIONS
4.3.1 Provide parkland based on the following priorities: Locate parks within ~500 metres of all residents that are accessible without crossing an arterial road; Locate parks in proximity to future school sites; Increase active park amenities that enable recreation and sport opportunities; Increase public waterfront access rights to shorelines and beaches; and Locate parks where population is growing and design them for intensive multi-use programming. Enhancing connections through trails, walkways and greenways ; Collaborating with neighbouring municipalities and regional agencies to create seamless connections between Surrey’s network and border-adjacent parks within the regional Green Infrastructure Network ; and Working with governmental and other agencies to secure waterfront access rights to shorelines and beaches. Enhance connectivity and social interactions in Surrey’s public space network by supporting:

Publicly accessible plazas on private property; and Mid-block connections on private property.

Create universally accessible public spaces by designing grades, surface materials, and signage to meet the needs of all users. Incorporate Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles into the planning and development of parks , plazas, and greenways .
