My name is Gordon Hepner and I am running as an independent candidate for School Trustee. I’m a father of two elementary school boys, have lived most of my life here in Surrey. I have a Masters Degree in Legal Studies and have a local Notary Corporation in Surrey. I’m a sports coach and strive to see youth succeed I believe our Board of Education, overseeing the Province’s largest School District has a duty

to ensure our children receive the education that ensures they have a strong future. We have unique challenges with a growing population, including support for French Immersion and special needs, so we must advance new school construction. I’ll be a strong advocate to ensure our District receives the support it deserves. I will be a solid contributor to the Surrey Board of Education. There are two key areas of ongoing concerns within the School District. First the need to once again focus and strengthen the coupling of development strategies within the City to available school resources. Housing development must only proceed within the parameters of available student spaces. Approval from the School District must once again become the corner stone prior to any approval

of residential development within the City. Second, there is a clear need for the School District to take a commanding lead to help our youth transition into adulthood. More of our Secondary Schools need to be designated as platforms for apprentice training starting in grade ten through twelve. As these young adults leave school they can do so with their apprentice ticket in an array of trades and technical careers. Innovation will set the ground work for a prosperous future.
