BUILT ENVIRONMENT & NEIGHBOURHOODS

• Completed the installation of new playgrounds at two neighbourhood parks, Salmonberry Park and Edmund Park in 2024 to enhance the Clayton and Newton communities. Major playground renovations were also completed at Guildford Heights Park, Robertson Drive Park, William Beagle Park, and McIntyre Park; and

The City introduced its new Accessibility Action Plan which was adopted by Council in April 2024. This plan highlights the City of Surrey’s commitment to accessibility. In line with the Accessible BC Act, the Surrey Accessibility Leadership Team (“SALT”) was re-established and new members were onboarded through community outreach. Additionally, a new Terms of Reference was created.

In 2024, the City of Surrey supported 36 sport tourism events through the Sports Tourism Grant Program, allocating a total of $88,700. The grant requests reached the highest amount since the program's inception, reflecting the growth of sports tourism in Surrey. These events included nine International, six national, four regional, and 17 provincial level sport competitions hosted in the City; and

• To better serve our clients, the City prioritized Surrey residents for our seasonal online registration. This initiative addresses the need to stabilize high traffic volumes on surrey.ca on registration days. It is a continuation of the improvements made in 2023, which included staggered registration dates, a virtual waiting room and simplified login.
