FUTURE INITIATIVES, GOALS & OBJECTIVES
INCLUSION
• The City will start construction on several childcare projects including Surrey Sport and Leisure Complex, Don Christian Recreation Centre, Bridgeview Community Centre, and O’Siem Village at Hawthorne Park. This will create an additional 260 spaces with Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre and the New Newton Recreation Centre completions to follow. In total, the City will have added 488 new childcare spaces for families with Provincial investments over $19 million since 2021.

INFRASTRUCTURE
The City of Surrey will continue to establish itself as a premier destination for major sporting events. Its rising profile has enabled the City to expand its sport hosting portfolio by attracting new high-profile national events, such as the PGA Tour America’s Fortinet Cup, Master Bowling National Championships, and the Canadian Open Chess Tournament. Additionally, the City is exploring bids for other sports in the coming year, including ball hockey, curling, and badminton; and
The City of Surrey plans to continue enhancing public spaces and parks in Newton by increasing activation and programing as well as enhancing public amenities. This initiative is part of the broader Focus Newton action plan, which aims to make the community more vibrant and connected.
