The rest - 56% - is used to provide public services and invest in recreational facilities, parks, transportation infrastructure and arts and culture amenities to ensure our city continues to advance as one of Canada’s most vibrant and livable cities.

The City of Surrey collects property taxes on behalf of the Province of BC,TransLink, BC Assessment, Metro Vancouver and other authorities. Nearly 44% of property taxes collected are passed on to these authorities to pay for schools and other regional services.

Is Your Suite Registered? Property owners must declare the number of additional dwelling units (e.g., basement, garden, or coach house suites) on their property. Properties with additional units are billed an $893.00 per suite service fee in 2025, reflecting the extra demand suites and additional dwellings place on Surrey’s amenities and services.

Any suite identified that has not been registered will be subject to the applicable fees and a $1,000 penalty per suite.
